Types of HVAC Systems

Cooling Only Split System split-system-14 Used to heat and cool indoor air, also available in split or packaged systems, must be manually switched over to change the cycle from heating to cooling.
Cooling Only Packaged System   packaged-system-15 Condenser, and air handler system housed outside of the building, cooled air is brought in through a duct system.
Heat Pump  heat-pump Used to heat and cool indoor air, also available in split or packaged systems, must be manually switched over to change the cycle from heating to cooling.
Chilled Water System  chilled-water-system-19 Utilizes a cooling tower and cold water circulation. Water is circulated and used to condense refrigerant in the coils. Usually used in large buildings.
Window A/C  window-ac-18 One of the earliest forms of air conditioners. Is placed on a window sill or other specially made opening. Outside air is cooled and pumped into a single room. Used for cooling or heating small spaces.
Closed Loop System  chilled-water-system-17 Utilizes the same water continuously. Water must be treated and maintained to ensure proper PH levels. May utilize a cooling tower in large applications.
Open System  open-system-20 Utilizes fresh source of water for each cycle and continuous draining of used water.
Air Cooled System  air-cooled-21 Uses air to condense refrigerant in coils. Requires fan and plenty of access to ambient air. Located outdoors and can be split or packaged.
